On February 9th, in the 12th district of Paris, was held a “tattoo flash” event, in collaboration with Jay Sampaguita and Sybarite Handpoke, two tattoo artists experienced in traditional Philippine tribal tattooing. The objective of this day of solidarity was to present flash tattoos to people who came for the occasion. Prices ranged from €80 to €100 depending on the size and complexity of the designs: all funds raised were donated to CAMELEON.
Jay is a French-Filipino tattoo artist who loves to draw since she was a child because it’s a simple and clear way to express her emotions and to transmit them to others. She has been tattooing since she was 18 years old and has been self-taught for a long time in semi-realistic tattooing. It was only when she met her mentor, Elle Mana Festin, a tattoo artist of Filipino origin, that she was able to fully blossom in this art. He taught her all about the culture and the traditional Filipino tattoo, mostly composed of symbols of fauna and flora with particular meanings.
She met CAMELEON during the first Food Festival Philippin organized in Paris by the associationLa Petite Manille last November, where she had already had the opportunity to tattoo participants for the good cause. This is a cause that is very close to her heart and that’s why she accepted to collaborate with CAMELEON by offering her services during this day
The information of this event was widely relayed on social networks. Faced with so much enthusiasm, Jay decided to invite Quentin (Sybarite Handpoke) who graciously accepted without hesitation.
The solidarity event took place at Raise Tattoo Shop. Initially scheduled from 11am to 7pm, it lasted from 9am to 9pm, having met more success than expected! The people present were seduced by the idea of being able to act for the good cause in such an unusual way. They saw it as an opportunity to discover Filipino tribal tattooing while supporting our missions and programs. Some knew the tattoo artists and admired their work, others already knew about CAMELEON. This allowed both communities to meet and exchange.
At the end of this charity day, Jay and Quentin raised the generous sum of €2,510 for the association. They were kind enough to donate their time and energy and really enjoyed being a part of this project, from planning to implementation. This would not have been possible without them and the people who attended, to whom we extend our deepest thanks. We hope to have the honour of organizing more projects like this in the future.
